Book Review: Has a Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast in Bed?
Reviewer: Arnold Tullos
"It's 3:30 in the morning and I just read another amazing book written by Pat Brannon from Amory Mississippi. This children's book, Has a Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast in Bed? is a book that teaches children about different animals. This book is a great teaching aid for children of all ages. This book is so comical and entertaining that I read it three times. Not only does it teach children about animals, but I noticed that other important things are taught in this book and different aspects in life were illustrated. The animals were so life-like that they just jump out of each page. These animals preform many things that we all learn from day to day. This book is a NEED to have for your children and family and teaches not only about animals, but different aspects in life. This is a great book that you can read over and over again with your children and it would never get old to them. I have nothing to gain by recommending this book to everyone and I strongly urge every parent, grandparent, or anyone that has children to get a copy of this AWESOME book. This book would be a great investment for the life of your children and will bring many hours of fun, learning, and entertainment into their lives, and the lives of you parents also. To get your copy of this awesome book, please text, Facebook Pat on her timeline, go to Has a Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast in Bed?, or go to her web site at www.patbrannon.com."

Book review: Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley:
Reviewer: Arnold Tullos
"I would like to take a moment to tell you about a book that I've read. I haven't been much of a book reader as of late, but I did take the time to read this Awesome book today. The name of this book is Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley, written by Pat Brannon from Amory, Mississippi. I would like you to know that I have no personal, nor monetary stake in this book. Pat is a very talented, Christian writer. This book is an Awesome book that teaches a life lesson that is as old as time itself. It deals with the age-old problem of bullying. This book had me laughing at times, but most of all it had me crying tears of sadness of just how cruel some can be because someone is different than what we expect them to be, especially among our children and young people today. This is a MUST READ BOOK!. If you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, Sunday school teacher, this is a MUST READ BOOK! The lesson that it teaches is invaluable, especially in today's society where too many people place the importance on what someone looks like instead of what's on the inside. This book is for children and adults alike for we as adults often face this same issue of bullying in the work place, the same as a child on the playground. Men tend to look on the outward man, when God looks on the inward man, and this is the most valued lesson that this book teaches. If you would like a copy of Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley please txt, message, or Facebook Pat on her page or go to her web site: www.patbrannon.com. It will be well worth your time."

"“Pat Brannon has a knack for crafting stories that both children and adults will love. In Violet’s Not-So-Velvet Voice, she’s written a charming tale about a young child’s search for something most adults haven’t mastered: how to deliver criticism with kindness… A wonderful story: Our highest recommend.”

"It is the wit of a person to find the words and craft them into lyrics, a poem, or even a joke. But it is the heart of a person to bring a moving in our spirit. You will find that in this book-Walk Softly (You're Steppin' On My Heart!). Open and enjoy!"

"The students at Atkins Elementary School were captivated during a visit with author Pat Brannon recently. Mrs. Brannon, acclaimed author from Amory, MS, shared her story of growing up in the nearby community of Morrilton. She took the stage dressed in ragged clothes and thick glasses. She told stories of being made fun of and bullied when she was a child because she was bigger than the other kids, wore glasses and hand-me-down clothes. Her anti-bullying message was personal and really seemed to resonate with all of the students. They cheered for her as she transformed into a well-dressed successful author as she sang an original song. It was a wonderful opportunity for our student to see a successful author in action."

"Pat Brannon writes books that are interesting and educational with morals built in. When I read her first book, Walk Softly (You're Steppin' On My Heart!), I cried when I read the poem "Aching Hearts, Empty Chair." It was about my mother, her grandmother.
Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley is so needed in this world. This book is about bullying. Pat does a full monologue in character at schools to show both children and adults how wrong they can be to pre-judge others. Her presentation is appropriate for churches and other events. All of her books are wonderful in my opinion and so needed in today's world."

"Pat is a wonderful and very talented writer. Her books teach children on many levels. For instance my 5 year old grandson got help from Quirky Kids' Zoo with his counting. He uses his imagination (which can be very wild) when we read Has A Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast In Bed?. I hope later on when he reads Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley he learns to look at the inner person and not just the outside. These books should be required reading for every school.
As for the books for us older kids, my favorite is Walk Softly (Your Steppin' on my Heart!). It is a great collection of poems. My favorite is Widow's Mite. Every time I read a poem it puts someone I know in my mind.I hope Pat continues to let her creativity continue."

“Last February our school was visited by Ms. Pat Brannon. Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Brannon. She talked to our students about the importance of being a good friend, and how our words and actions can hurt others. She also read excerpts from her book, Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley. Our students really enjoyed hearing Ms. Brannon read these passages, and many of our teachers were very excited about the lessons that the students learned from Ms. Brannon’s visit. We hope Ms. Brannon can visit us again, hopefully soon."

“Pat Brannon did an excellent job with our students. She was our guest at the monthly character assemblies. The students were well engaged and learned how Mrs. Brannon uses her life experiences to write her stories. I love that she was “down to earth” and involved the students. Afterwards, she even took time to visit one of the classes and autographed bookmarks. The teacher and students were very excited! We would love to have her return and talk to our older students about becoming an author and what it takes to get books published."

Dear Mrs. Brannon,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for coming to our school. It was such a special treat for us to have a real “live” author. You captivated the boys and girls from the minute you opened the door to the auditorium. YOU became the character in your book! This was incredible motivation for our children. They are already asking what the new character will be in your next book. Not only are you an amazing author, but your characters personalize the story for everyone. There are “Farley’s” in all our classrooms. Besides being a chapter book for students, there is also a “character “ lesson for all of us.
From the time you substituted for me and wrote poems for the classes to now, you are a very gifted lady. Thank you for writing for boys and girls. We look forward to reading more adventures! Also, Belle Elementary would like to be an audience of yours anytime. Please let Ms. Ward know when you can come back!
Sincerely,

“I enjoyed the metamorphosis which Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley endured among his schoolmates, the anti-social experience he suffered and his eventual growth into a proud emergence as a class icon compared to my childhood experiences in the depression era in Puerto Rico where I was born in 1934.
Born in rock-bottom, abject poverty, but with a prolific knowledge-seeking mind, I rose to dignity and acceptance by my junior and high school classmates, thanks in part to a loving mother’s dedication to her children. She did not let our poverty keep her from sending us to school in clean, ironed clothing.
The smell in our hero’s body was replaced in my case with indifference and loneliness at first, but gave way to recognition of my talents as a historic orator, ample fluency in English, and a long military career that spanned 28 years.
Pat Brannon has certainly shown her forte’ in describing the anti-social mores, injustice, and prejudice prevalent in some of our schools today. With patient acceptance and understanding of the beauty and resourcefulness of a child that is different, yet not conforming to the mores of today’s society, we accept Pat’s analogy in such a descriptive, sure that all of us in a minority must look at to dispel the evils of rejection.”

"As a teacher, it is rare to find a book that students in this grade level can truly relate to and learn a lesson from. When I read Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley, I was very impressed with the message that it sent to the reader. In our area, poverty is a very familiar problem. Therefore, students can empathize with Farley. It is a rare occurrence when a student can learn a valuable life lesson while improving their reading skills with a book that is as enjoyable as this one. This story is very age-appropriate for elementary and middle school students, but is heartwarming no matter what age. The author, Pat Brannon, is an incredibly talented writer, which is evident in this children's book. I would recommend this book to every teacher, parent, and student. In my opinion, this book is a must read!”

“Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley is a delightful book which certainly captures the minds and hearts of typical elementary/middle school-aged children. Throughout the book a theme of empathy and perspective taking is woven to “bring home” the idea of “walking in another’s shoes” and having compassion.
All teachers and students have encountered a Farley at some point in their school experiences. Farley reminds us that each of us is important and can be helpful and valuable to others, no matter what our circumstances. So this could open discussion for character education in the classroom.
Pat Brannon is one of our newest creative writers who knows the personalities of children and writes to enlighten the readers to a better understanding of their peers and their situations. Her heart is centered around living a loving, Christ-centered life that follows the Golden Rule.”

“As a teacher in the public school system, Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley is a true-to-life character that teachers and students come in contact with on a daily basis. "I recently attended a book review of Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley at a public library where Pat did a wonderful job acting out many of the issues our children face today-bullying, gossiping, name-calling, hurt feelings, lying, confidence, honesty, and judging others by their outward appearance. I highly recommend that Pat's book, Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley, be available to our youth through the schools and libraries and that a copy of this book should be in school libraries, city libraries, and personal libraries. We must protect our children from being bullied and belittled in this society in which we live today.”

"Self worth and tolerance for individual differences - these are only two of the positive character traits which shine through Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley. Pat Brannon helps all of us walk in another's shoes. She immediately hooked our students at Sequoyah Elementary School in Russellville, Arkansas with her enthusiasm and intriguing wardrobe! Because she and Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley were on our computers in the library and we had read the book and distributed the leaflets, our students were eager to meet Pat Brannon. She did not disappoint them. Her presentation is an excellent character education program using the power of reading."
